I've been reading about that lately too Josh. Of course, with the popularity rise of rss and social networking, email marketing has and will continue to experience some set backs. But, there are still many people who want to utilize email. Plus, an email list (in my opinion) is much more valuable than a follower list since you can contact your audience directly. Social networking should be used to move your followers to your email list.

Kaushik – that's great that people ar signing up for your newsletter over your RSS. See, with your newsletter, you have more control over the content you send to them. Your list is a very valuable asset. RSS only sends your latest posts. It won't allow you to send personal notes, unless you use a service like Feedblitz or AWeber.

I also get more newsletter subscribers than rss subscribers.

I was advised I should have a newsletter. I don't yet quite see why because whatever I publish in the newsletter I will publish in the blog, but I'm not a clever marketeer so I work on advice from smart people like you. I use a free wordpress plugin for newsletter. I've done the same things you have–transparency, honesty, choice, and giving real value in the free articles and newsletter.

Since I have offered the newsletter, fewer people are signing up for RSS. Have you had the same experience?
