<itunes:summary>Over the last nine months, I’ve received several emails and blog comments regarding ecommerce. I decided to combine all of those questions into a 45 minute Q&A podcast where I can share my answers with all of you at the same time! The audio is a little low, so please let me know if you're experiencing trouble hearing me.

I refer to my ecommerce host several times in this podcast. You can learn more about them here: Network Solutions. I use their nsCommerceSpace™ (Premium) package for all of my stores.

Questions I Answer in this Podcast:

What ecommerce software do you use?

How did you create your ecommerce stores?

Do you use dropshipping for your Theme Kitchen and Theme Bathroom stores or do you carry inventory yourself?

What is your opinion of working with individual dropshippers versus a service like Doba.com.

I don't have the time to individually contact suppliers/wholesalers. How do I find product?

Do they use more than one dropshipper for each store? Can I sell several different products online, from separate dropshippers, on the same store?

How do you get all of your dropshippers to use the same shipping carrier?

Do you send multiple tracking numbers to customers when sending items from more than one shipper?

Do you charge the customers for the extra shipping charges acquired from shipping from more than one location?

How do you handle taxes if a customer orders a product that is shipped from their own state?

If I have a WordPress blog setup and want to add a shopping cart, is that possible?

Do you process and ship orders yourself?

Are your stores actually a frontend of an affiliate site?

How do you update content on your stores for SEO purposes?

Should I Use Dropshippers or Carry My Own Inventory?

<itunes:summary>Well, the interview with Yaro was absolutely fantastic and ended up lasting almost 2 hours! So, I’ve decided to divide the podcast into three parts. The first two are made up of questions you submitted for Yaro. The third is made up of my own questions.

Topics Discussed:

What blogging platform do you suggest beginners who want to make money through blogging use - Blogger or Wordpress?

How can I easily transfer my current sites onto blogs?

To blog vs. to niche.... Is it overkill to have both an authority blog and several niche auto pilot sites? Should you just focus on one blog for awhile?

What elements do you look for when choosing the "perfect" blog theme?

How do you convert as many blog visitors as possible into loyal / regular readers?

Should I make a separate landing page for my blog’s Newsletter Opt-In or should I simply put my actual opt-in form on my blog’s header/sidebar/etc. and hope for the best?

<itunes:subtitle>If you’re sick of your normal day job, you might eagerly answer yes to this question. Of course you want to be your own boss. You want to work from home, set your own hours, answer only to yourself. Who wouldn’t? - Well,</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary>If you’re sick of your normal day job, you might eagerly answer yes to this question. Of course you want to be your own boss. You want to work from home, set your own hours, answer only to yourself. Who wouldn’t?

Well, wanting to be your own boss and being ready for it are two different things. Throughout my years of self-employment, I’ve learned that many people who say they want to do what I do don’t fully understand what it means to work for yourself. Often their fantasies involve waking up at noon and fooling around all day. This is possible, but not 100% realistic.

Everywhere you look online for Internet business training, you find success stories of people who were able to earn an income in a short amount of time – with almost no investment! What I want to do today is explain to you the realities of what goes on “behind the scenes.” Yes, you can earn a full-time income online in a short amount of time and yes, an Internet business requires minimal investment. But, as with any other type of business venture, there are certain “un-fun” realities that come with this success.

So, without further ado, let’s dive into the nitty-gritty of what it takes to be your own boss!

It Takes Time

Sorry – no get rich quick schemes here. If you want to create a truly profitable and SUSTAINABLE online business, you’re going to have to devote some time to it. As with any type of business, a large portion of your time (especially in the beginning) will be spent on the daily operations of your company, marketing and advertising, researching, training, and development.

The timeline for earning an income will depend on what business model you choose (ecommerce, affiliate marketing, blogging, etc) and the amount of time you spend learning how to properly grow your business.

You’re already on the right step by reading this article. You’re engaged in the process of learning and you’re devoting 5 minutes of your time right now on growing your business!

Time is the enemy for a business owner. There are only 24 hours in a day to achieve your goals, meet your deadlines and complete your tasks. And, it becomes an even crueler enemy when you decide to run an online business. Why? Because, the Internet offers all of us a low cost, easy way to build AS MANY BUSINESSES AS WE WANT! You might be focused on only one online business venture at the moment, but trust me, the time will come when you will consider embarking on a new online venture, and perhaps another, and another.

This is in fact one of the smartest ways to achieve sustainable success online – put your eggs in SEVERAL baskets. That way, if one market declines or disappears, you’re covered by your other ventures.

Perhaps you have a family to look after or a spouse that relies on your share of the income. Time is of the essence in this case – you need to earn a full-time income as quickly as possible and you may have to sacrifice time with family in order to attain it.

It’s important to outline your business goals. This gives you a clear picture of what you want and how you plan to get it. Check out my article, 7 Tips for Defining Your Business Goals, to learn how you can specify your goals and create a timeline for success.

It Takes Discipline

No one’s going to call you and tell you to get your butt to work if you happen to sleep in! You are your own boss now, which means you’re responsible for getting to your office on time, handling customer issues even when you’re sick, and working late nights if need be. Remember, you DON’T HAVE A SECURE PAY CHECK anymore. The money comes once you’ve put in the work. And sometimes the money may not come, even after devoting your time and attention to your business.

It’s your responsibility to assume the risk of self-employment and do everything you can to bring in a full-time income. I never worked harder in my life than when I became a business owner. And guess what… it was worth it!</itunes:summary>
