Is FresheVenture.com Over?

Heck no! I’ve just been sick. You could refer to my particular sickness as “morning sickness.” You know –

A “special delivery” has me feeling under the weather.
I’m “glowing” with fatigue.
I’m “with” nauseous.

Ok, enough of the run around – I’m expecting a baby!!! and couldn’t be more thrilled or nauseous!

Scott and Keller's Baby

After 10 years of building our relationship, my fiancé and I decided to add a third to the equation! That’s right – TEN YEARS. We began dating when I was 17 years old. He’s watched me fail and succeed with my businesses and waited for me as I went away to college. In 2008, we purchased our first home together. And now, in 2010, we will welcome our first child into our lives!

It’s been a rough couple months. I lost the battle against morning sickness and fatigue and ended up in bed for over month. Work has never been so distant from my daily activities. But, I’m beginning to feel better!

For the last week, I’ve been catching up on my stores and client work. Everyone has been so supportive – I couldn’t be luckier to have such understanding people in my life.

As for FresheVenture.com, I simply couldn’t get myself to sit up long enough to write a post. There were weeks where even looking at my iPhone screen made me nauseous. Not to mention the complete lack of inspiration – turns out feeling horrible doesn’t do much for the inspiration department.

What’s In Store for My Blog?

Now that I’m beginning to come out into the sunlight again, I’m excited to get underway with a few things…

1. Blog Reviews of Our Contest Winners

I owe Will of WhatAWebsite.org and Dana of DanaSlatkin.com blog reviews for their fantastic wins in our Best WordPress Design Contest 2009. They have been incredibly patient with me (these reviews were due back in October) and I’m so grateful for that. I plan to focus on getting those reviews completed – finally!

2. Fresh Journal Premium WordPress Theme

I hope to offer a premium WP theme designed by yours truly within the next couple weeks. It’s a very simple design loaded with backend options. It’s in its last stages of development, then comes testing and finally a release – stay tuned! Here’s a little sneak peak:

Attention Men: The pink will be completely customizable!

3. Theme Nursery – My Third Store

I had actually planned to launch Theme Nursery last spring – and then I decided to hold off and launch FresheVenture.com instead. It was totally worth putting off as my blog has been the most incredible Internet project I’ve ever worked on. However, it’s about time I get back to work on this store – especially now that I’m in the market for my own theme nursery!

I hope to launch my third store this February. I will also do my best to take notes for tips and ideas for all of my ecommerce followers!

4. Article Series Wrap Ups

I started a couple article series a few months back that I really enjoyed writing. I’ve been excited to get back to them. So, in the next couple months look out for:

  • The Greatest SEO Myths Series Wrap Up
  • Selling Advertising Space Series Wrap Up

5. Discussions Forum Reopening

My forum went down due to a server issue in November. I had planned on fixing it in December, but – well, obviously I didn’t get a chance to. So, look out for the forum reopening in the next couple months. I’m just hoping I won’t have to overhaul the thing!

When Will All This Be Happening?

I’m able to sit back at my desk longer each day, but I’m still slow and nauseous. So, I would like to ask for everyone’s patience as I get back into the groove of things.

You may notice that my average weekly post count will be low for a little while (I used to average 1 post every 1.5 days). My first goal is to write at least one post a week, but hopefully that will increase quickly as I settle back into work.

I want to thank everyone for your concern and well wishes – it means so much. I’m also eager to discuss with all of you how this hiatus has affected my traffic, PageRank and stats – definitely something to learn from.

It happens to be my 27th birthday today, so I’m off to spend the evening with friends. I’m actually going OUT tonight – I can’t believe it!

I can’t wait to talk with you all again and begin writing next week!

  • Hi Keller - Glad to see you back on your blog, and big congrats to you on your happy news. I have 3 little girls myself, and I can soooo sympathize with the severe morning sickness. If you need some coping suggestions, feel free to email or tweet me. Thanks for all the great info here, and I'm really looking forward to seeing your WP template!
  • Congratulations, Happy Birthday and I hope you'll be feeling much better soon. Best to you and yours.
  • Hey Keller!

Congratts on the baby, my little one just turned 4 months old. It's the best thing in my life.

I look forward to interacting with you more often now that your feeling better. :)
  • Thank you everyone! It's so good to be back and I'm really grateful to not be hearing crickets around here :).

beverlyhillsfarmgrl - thank you for the tip! Gingerale is the only thing that got me through the worst weeks.

I'm so excited to be back!!!
  • Congrats Keller !!

PS. I've been observing some strange things with feedburner tracking for RSS posts. It seems as though the new posts are hitting my feed reader even before you publish them. Sounds foolish, but that's what is happening.
Your latest post about 'Link cloaking...' and stuff hit my feed reader, but when I followed the feedburner tracking url, it led to a 404. I also can't find that post in your website if I visited directly. What's wrong?
  • Thanks for the heads up Sriraj! That was my fault. I had to publish the post early so that I could show it in the video I made for that post. Since the post wasn't finished, I then had to set it back to draft (unpublish).

The post is now live and you can check it out here: http://www.fresheventure.com/3055/link-cloaking...
  • Wow, great news Keller! I was just a bit sick for couple of days, so I know how it feels when you would like to write, but you just can't, and if you can, you physically can't.

And my little flu was nothing compared to what you've went through, so it's nice to see you writing again - it's a great feeling to "be back", isn't it? All the best for you, and this new venture you're on now :)
  • Hello keller i congrats you for baby.
  • Congratulation! and welcome back!
  • DSW

    Keller,

This is the best newsflash ever! As a mother of 3, I know the beautiful journey ahead of you. It's the most meaningful roller-coaster of an adventure you will ever take. I applaud you for showing your human side and confessing to your nausea-induced burnout. Just take care of yourself , and we look forward to hearing about your future endeavors! Btw, gingerale works wonders when you're feeling sick.

    Best,

    Dana

Congratulations Keller! May God bless you and your family, and may the new year be all that you dream it to be.
  • Congratulations, Keller! We've missed you! (By the way, cute baby pic!) Hope you continue to feel better every day.
  • Keller, Congrats... I was starting to get worried that something had happened. You get so used to reading someone's content, when it doesn't come there is a feeling of emptiness... That's probably Way dramatic. Anyways its great to have you back and I look forward to all you have planned.

    Thanks,

    Ryan H.
  • Awww congratulations Keller and happy birthday!

I know all about the sickness! :( But it's time limited, just tell yourself that and try to really enjoy those moments when you don't feel like you're out at sea in a dinghy!

I had to come over and check a few times if my feed was indeed correct that there were no new posts here, definitely out of character for you. Great to see you back!

Such wonderful news to see today and thanks for the pic, it brings back fond memories from a few years ago! When are you due?
  • Brilliant baby news - and a fabulous b/w photo.
Have a great birthday Keller !
    Cheers
    Will

  • Keller, Congratulations on the Baby!! Very exciting. Oh, and enjoy your birthday as well (mine was great - 21st of Jan, but I shared it yesterday (being in Australia and all)
